Lou Schuler talks about run­ning for weight loss, and if it works. Most peo­ple pick up run­ning after years of doing noth­ing. At first, you def­i­nitely will see results — coz you’ve been sit­ting on your ass for ever. But over the mid and long-term, you are going to eat away your mus­cles, not just fat. That’s what endurance sports will do, if they are the only form of exer­cise you are get­ting. I am not against run­ning — I love it, as part of play­ing a sport. There are a lot of you out there who love run­ning for a vari­ety of rea­sons. I am not going to try stop you — that’s dumb. I am just say­ing you should round out your work­out by adding in strength and mobil­ity work. Be smart about it.

An easy to read post, that breaks down a study by the Amer­i­can Acad­emy of Pedi­atrics, that com­pares eat­ing grains (oat­meal, in this case) to eat­ing real food (an omelette, in this case). The study has a small sam­ple size of twelve but is pretty inter­est­ing to read. The par­tic­i­pants were fed three dif­fer­ent meals con­tain­ing the same amount of calories.

Peo­ple con­sumed 81% more calo­ries dur­ing the five hours after eat­ing instant oat­meal than after eat­ing the same num­ber of calo­ries as an omelet and fruit—and 19% more calo­ries after eat­ing steel-cut oat­meal than after eat­ing an omelet and fruit.

Finally, a pretty awe­some recipe for Coconut Milk Kefir, from Mark Sis­son. Am gonna give it a try tonight! I love kefir but get only the low-fat ver­sions at my local store. Plus, it is sweet­ened too much with zero-cal sweet­en­ers. I am guess­ing using coconut milk will give it a nat­ural sweet taste. Am gonna make a batch with raw milk too!
